This book is team work of highly experienced academicians in the subject of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the DMIMSU University. In India, Recently the undergraduate and postgraduate medical curriculum is updated as Competency Based Undergraduate Curriculum will be implemented from August 2019 and has more foucs on skill training (competetency based). One of the main aspects of assessment is skill demonstration during practical exams. This book is conceptualised with these changes in curriculum as a guide to practical exams.

An OSCE /OSPE is a type of Objective type of Test used in medical and paramedical sciences. It is structured to test knowledge, clinical or procedural skill and competence in a range of the same skills. It is a practical approach to learning and assessment. The pourpose of this academic venture is to develop a guiding manual depicting the nuances of OSCE /OSCPE assessment. (1) (2)(3)

The salient features of this book are decription of common questions and answers asked at the stations and steps of procedure expected to be demonstrated at OSCE/ OSCPE stations  in detail and common questions asked at grand viva (table viva voce).There are standard protocols for OSCE content and scoring.(4)(5).All the stations scoring sheets have been  validated by experts in the subject.(7)

A) IN SKILL STATIONS

  • 1)The student should be aware of the method of expected TASK / PROCEDURE (SKILL)
  • 2)The student should be able to demonstrate the procedure correctly.
  • 3)The student should introduce himself/herself to patient.
  • 4)The student should be able communicate with patient regarding what procedure he/she is going to perform.
  • 5)The student should make the patient comfortable  and ease
  • 6)The student should take consent of patient for examination before examining
  • 7)The student should thank the patient after completion of task

B) RESPONSE STATIONS-

You are expected to answer questions based upon interpretation of skill performed/knowledge related to skill.

C)-QUESTION STATIONS-

You are expected to answer questions asked on the given instrument / drug / contraceptive / specimen /clinical scenario.
