About The Author / Editor

Nicholas Jairo Kavana

Department Parasitology and Medical Entomology, St. Francis University College of Health and Allied Sciences, Ifakara, Tanzania.

This book originated from lecture notes which were used to accompany my medical entomology lectures to medical students in St. Francis University College of Health and Allied Sciences, Ifakara, Tanzania. I wrote it in the same concise note form to try and present clearly the facts about medical entomology which students have to know. The contents of this book are organized in a logical flow of chapters. Although it is meant to be reasonably comprehensive, the book is not intended as a reference book on medical entomology; those interested in such a book should refer to some of the larger books on the subject. The present book is aimed at students studying medicine, medical laboratory science, master′s degree in parasitology or medical entomology. Its aim is to provide basic information on the identification, biology, medical importance of arthropods and their control. Nevertheless, I have attempted to write a book to suit the needs of most students. It is noteworthy here to indicate to the learner that this material is not full in itself to give all the knowledge and experience required, but is a road map to influence the reader to get initiated for searching more and valid information from various sources. This material, therefore, does not replace any standard text book.
